The Role of a SmartZone

Each Michigan SmartZone will help start-up companies in preparing their applications to the Pre-Seed Fund.

EachSmartZone will be responsible for extensive due diligence of thepotential deals and submit only those opportunities which have gonethrough initial development and meet an agreed upon set of definedcriteria for potential pre-seed investment. These local funds may beused to:
  • Hire consultants to further flesh out a competitive analysis
  • Prepare financial pro formas
  • Develop plans to cross regulatory hurdles
  • Other such issues that are typically required by investors before they will invest
TheSmartZone staff and its representative Investment Review Board (IRB)member will determine if a Company meets criteria that are appropriateto be presented to the full IRB.
