Barracuda Networks Inc. today announced that it will double its number of employees in Ann Arbor, creating 184 high tech and engineering jobs over three years. This move is part of the company’s commitment to invest $6 million in its relocation to 317 Maynard in downtown Ann Arbor.

“Barracuda Networks continues to thrive, and Ann Arbor is critical to that success,” said Sean Heiney, director of new product initiatives for Barracuda Networks. “We’re doubling down our commitment to the region, bringing new and exciting jobs that are helping to shape our new economy. We’re extremely thrilled about our expansion and look forward to breathing new life into such an iconic space downtown.”

Confirmed today, the City of Ann Arbor is offering Barracuda Networks a five-year tax abatement under PA 198 which is estimated to be valued at $85,150. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is offering up to $1.2 million in funding from the Michigan Business Development Program.

“The expansion of Barracuda Networks demonstrates the importance of our strategy to help companies grow and flourish,” said Governor Rick Snyder. “This investment highlights the value of Michigan’s highly competitive business climate and incredible workforce abilities for cutting-edge companies looking to expand.”

Over the last few years, Barracuda Networks has been working with Ann Arbor SPARK to connect with the deep pool of talent in the region. Since that time, Barracuda Networks has grown aggressively, today at 172 employees in Michigan.

“Ann Arbor SPARK’s work with Barracuda Networks shows how proactive economic development can yield positive, measurable outcomes for our region,” said Paul Krutko, Ann Arbor SPARK president and CEO. “Barracuda’s new location in downtown Ann Arbor fills a very visible vacant property with exactly the type of growing, high tech business that attracts talent and investment to the region. Collaboration between local and state entities made this move possible, and reflects the broad support for businesses like Barracuda Networks that are committed to aggressive growth.”

Barracuda Networks participated in two MichAGAIN trips to California, working to attract talent back to the state. The company was a participant in the recently concluded first Shifting Code cohort, designed to connect employers with talent in the region who were committed to developing software engineering skills.

Barracuda Networks expects to move into the new location later this year. To support its expansion, the company is hiring a number of positions including software engineers, user experience designers, quality assurance talent, systems administrators, and help technicians.
