Three Michigan companies recently received investments from the Michigan Pre-Seed Capital Fund, totaling $585,000. To date, the Michigan Pre-Seed Capital Fund, a collaborative effort of Michigan’s SmartZones, has awarded 63 Michigan companies with seed funding totaling more than $14 million.

Ann Arbor SPARK, a public-private partnership whose mission is to advance innovation-based economic development in the greater Ann Arbor region, worked with Hyundai to help the company secure more than $2.5 million in new business development incentives from the State of Michigan and Superior Township. The funding, which is subject to approval by the Michigan Strategic Fund, will be used by Hyundai to expand an environmental chamber for extreme temperature testing at its technical center.

The Ann Arbor SPARK Foundation recently presented the winners of the Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition with their cash awards. The competition's grand prize of $500,000 in cash was awarded to DeNovo Sciences and the competition’s $150,000 prize was awarded to Fusion Coolant Systems.

Ann Arbor SPARK, a public-private partnership whose mission is to advance innovation-based economic development in the greater Ann Arbor region, is assisting the expansion of FAAC Incorporated facility in Pittsfield Township. As part of the expansion, FAAC Incorporated, part of Arotech Corporation’s (NasdaqGM: ARTX) Training and Simulation Division, has acquired a 40,000 square foot facility and is expected to immediately add 10 jobs.

The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) recently elected Paul Krutko, FM, president and CEO of Ann Arbor SPARK as vice chair of the Board of Directors. Krutko will complete his term as IEDC’s secretary/treasurer and will become vice chair in January 2012.

Ann Arbor SPARK, the public private partnership created to drive economic development through business expansion, retention and attraction to the Ann Arbor region, was recently asked by the Economic Development Council of Livingston County to make a proposal to assume management of its business attraction efforts. Under this new collaboration, Ann Arbor SPARK would include Livingston in its efforts to support business growth and expansion in the region.
