Ann Arbor SPARK recently earned designation as an Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO) from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). The AEDO program accredits local and state economic development entities, regional public-private economic development partnerships, the economic development departments of utility companies, and nonprofit business associations.

At its annual meeting, Ann Arbor SPARK detailed 2012 successes and its strategic plan for the coming year. It also presented the first annual Ann Arbor SPARK “Chairman Awards” for Volunteer Leader of the Year, Entrepreneurial Company and Project of the Year.

Message Blocks was awarded Best of Boot Camp at the conclusion of Ann Arbor SPARK’s 22nd Entrepreneurial Boot Camp. Message Blocks was chosen as winner by a panel of investors who rated Boot Camp participants’ pitches. As Best of Boot Camp winner, Message Blocks received membership to the New Enterprise Forum (NEF) and a NEF coaching team for one year as well as an engagement with the Ann Arbor SPARK business accelerator.

Nine Michigan companies have received a combined total of more than $397,000 through the Michigan Microloan Fund Program, bringing the total amount loaned through the Fund to nearly $3.6 million. The companies received the funding to support commercialization of their core products.

Ann Arbor SPARK four-time FastTrack winner MedHub recently received support from the Village of Dexter that will help the company expand at a historical site in the community. Ann Arbor SPARK worked with the company throughout the incentives process, which resulted in MedHub committing to invest more than $1.7 million and double its staff.

Ann Arbor SPARK helped Lyons Consulting Group secure incentives valued at more that $300,000 from the Michigan Economic Development Corp and the City of Ann Arbor to support its expansion in the region. As part of its expansion, Lyons, an e-commerce strategy, design, development, hosting and support firm based in Chicago, Ill., will invest $1.1 million and create 30 new jobs in the Ann Arbor area.

(LANSING, MI) – Lake Trust Credit Union announced plans today to build a new $30 million headquarters on approximately 17-acre site adjoining US 23 just north of I-96 near Brighton. Lake Trust is also committed to expanding the credit unions’ retail network throughout Michigan, including in Lansing and Plymouth. Lake Trust plans to invest a total of $40 million in Michigan over the next five years.

Ann Arbor SPARK was awarded $1 million from the Michigan Strategic Fund to support its business incubator activities via the creation of the new Washtenaw County Incubator Collaborative (WCIC). The Michigan Strategic Fund award is designed to stimulate the creation and continued growth of technology-based businesses and jobs.
