Listening and monitoring across the social web to what people are saying about you is the foundation for any social media strategy, but understanding the online voice of your customers can yield far more value beyond a social media strategy. Companies should be thinking about implementing a strategic listening program that gathers, analyzes, segments and integrates relevant social data to many different business units within an organization, such as product development, strategic planning, corp communications, customer care, sales, and marketing & advertising. Through social media monitoring, you can get off on the right foot and begin to understanding how social data should flow through your organization.
